Conference Workshop speaker Laurie Ure!

Sexuality has played a central role in Bioenergetic Analytic Therapy from its roots with Wilhelm Reich. Reich, a therapist and mentor of Alexander Lowen who started Bioenergetic Analysis, theorized from his observation with his patients that orgastic potency – the ability of a person to build energetic charge and release it in orgasm – is central to the mental health of a person. Through the development of Bioenergetic Therapy since its origins in the 1950s, our perspectives regarding the theme of sexuality have shifted and changed. But, sexuality – defined as a state of vitality in the body, including preparedness for sexual activity, remains an important part of our work. In this workshop I will give a brief overview of the role of sexuality in mental health from a Bioenergetic perspective, address some of the current thinking in Bioenergetics, and discuss how this fits into clinical practice. I will demonstrate some of the techniques and exercises I use to invite embodied sexuality with my clients.

Workshop Times: Thursday, 4:00 -6:00 PM and Saturday, 3:00 – 5:00 PM
