OPEN WORKSHOP: SELF IN MOTION

A radical phenomenological approach to Gestalt theory
with Ruella Frank, Ph.D.
July 10-13, 2017
For English and Spanish speakers.

As a phenomenological methodology, Gestalt therapy is concerned with an understanding of how we live the situation we are living: how to analyze, describe and know it. In this training, participants will learn the basic principles of Gestalt therapy theory by investigating the dynamics of movement. In breaking down movement process to its most basic
elements, we will explore ideas of self, creative adjusting, contacting, modalities of contacting, etc. That is, by focusing on MOVING– tactility (touch), kinesthesia (the feel of ourselves moving), and kinetics (movement itself), we will learn the essentials of how we experience ourselves with an other.

intersubjectivity

A developmental and movement oriented approach to Psychotherapy
A 2-day workshop led by Ruella Frank
February 24-25, 2017, Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm, Saturday 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

In this 2-day workshop, Dr Ruella Frank will explore the intricate relational moves of embodied intersubjectivity that form a basis of communication, initially between parent and baby but then throughout life. The movement repertoire that develops in the first year of life is a language that conveys our most pressing desires, intentions and emotions. These expressive movements, acquired in the company of significant others, go on to become the tacit core of adult behaviour in everyday experience and, of course, in the psychotherapy relationship too. It is on the details of this somatic expression of affect and relational intent that we will focus during the workshop, developing our understanding of the meaning and emotional significance of these somatic communications and skills in applying those insights to the therapy work.

Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy, created by Ruella Frank, Ph.D., is a relational and movement-oriented approach to psychotherapy within a Gestalt therapy framework.

Inspired by the work of developmental psychologists and somatic practitioners, Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy is a template for understanding and working with early psychophysical blocks as they emerge in the here-and-now of therapy. Attending to movement patterns is particularly powerful when guided by contemporary developmental theory.

Four Training Modules, two per year in fall and spring, five full days and one half day per module.

New York City:
INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPMENTAL SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
with Ruella Frank, Ph.D.
January 21-22, 2017, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm each day

Ongoing nonverbal interactions with our primary caregivers during the first year of life set a relational foundation that is apparent both in the everyday life of the adult and in psychotherapy. Even though our adult postural attitudes, gestures, gait and breathing patterns have changed over time, the foundations established in our first year remain readily observable and available. Attending to these patterns within psychotherapy is especially powerful.

During this workshop, participants learn how their relational styles originated through affective/movement patterns within the infant/caregiver dyad. Through movement, participants will explore these intrinsic yet unaware primary patterns which are part of present experiences and influence daily life. We then apply this understanding to the here-and-now of the client/therapist dyad.

Through the Looking Glass: Using Imaginal Resources to Heal Shame –
A Workshop for Therapists and Other Helping Professionals
with Sheila Rubin, LMFT, RDT/BCT and Bret Lyon, PhD, SEP, BCC

Saturday, November 5, 10am–6pm & Sunday, November 6, 10:30am–5:30pm

$295 ($275 with full payment by September 23)
Special rate for interns.

In Berkeley, just off the I-80

13 CEUs for MFTs and LCSWs (PCE #4456)

When clients get stuck in shame, the most powerful way to help them get unstuck may be to activate their imagination. In the Imaginal Realm, logic and time are fluid and flexible. What actually happened can be explored and changed. What was stuck in the cognitive realm can be reexamined and shifted. Shaming situations from the past can be revisited and resolved. In this workshop, we will utilize techniques from Drama Therapy, Focusing, Expressive Arts Therapy, Jungian creative imagination and Hakomi. We will explore the critical voices and/or the childhood scenes that are still driving the internal shame dynamic in the client. Once the shame is worked through in the Imaginal Realm the client can interact with the world differently.

Join us for a lively and informative evening with Anne Isaacs, LCSW and Joel Isaacs, Ph.D., who will be talking about how understanding the psychological functions of muscles makes verbal psychotherapy more efficient and effective. As opposed to traumatic experiences, which are imprinted primarily in the autonomic nervous system, the Bodynamic model describes how all the lesser but cumulative developmental disruptions are imprinted mostly in the voluntary nervous system, the related muscles, and the mind. This refined therapy offers precise yet simple interventions for resolving your clients’ current issues, leaving them more resourced, with new psychological abilities.

Bodynamics is praised by Raja Selvam, PhD, Senior Somatic Experiencing Trainer as “probably the most body-oriented and comprehensive developmental psychology and character structure model there is”. Babette Rothschild, author of “The Body Remembers: The Psychophysiology of Trauma and Trauma Treatment”, has described Bodynamics as: “the most sensible, comprehensive, easily applicable and accessible personality theory that I have ever encountered.”

Bodynamics was developed from empirical research in Denmark over 25 years ago. This 17-day training is offered across North America by the Isaacs, who continue to develop and innovate this important work and its teaching. The webinar will introduce you to the use of Bodynamics, including some enlightening case studies and an overview of the training, for which CEU’s can be earned.

Healing Developmental Disruptions: Experience the Precision of Bodynamic Therapy by learning to use the body to support verbal therapy

Evening Intro: (Sept 9, 2016 6:30pm – 8:30pm) Free

During this talk we’ll focus on the Autonomy Stage of Development; 8 months to 2.5 years of age. We’ll demonstrate how disruption during this stage creates a fear of commitment and dependency on others. We’ll demonstrate how to work with specific muscles to transform this internal experience. This can create an immediate sense of curiosity, joy, and creativity, typical of a healthy child at this age.

The presentation will include didactic and experiential work with time for questions.

One-day Workshop: (Sept 10, 2016 9:00am – 5:00pm) $75

Exploring the impact on adult behavior of disruptions in the Will Structure Stage, ages 2-4 years.

We will explore related developmental movements, and how the muscles involved hold needed resources for the resolution of therapeutic issues. We will offer demonstration sessions. Problems originating from this age include:

· Feeling overly responsible

· Blaming others

· Being stuck in a victim role

· Problems with planning

· Fear of your own power

Registration & Tickets: https://www.picatic.com/BodynamicSFbay

Full training begins October 20, 2016

About Bodynamics:

Bodynamics is a precise and practical approach to working with the body to make verbal psychotherapy more efficient and effective. This somatic therapy enables the practitioner to make precise interventions related to the developmental origins of your clients’ current problems.

Based on a wealth of empirical research the Bodynamics model describes how non-traumatic developmental disruptions are encoded in both mind and body. Bodynamic trainees learn to use specific muscles to build somatic resources that will guide, extend, and contain verbal therapy. This precision aids clients to sense new psychological competencies, resolve issues sooner, and integrate these changes directly into their lives.

Learning Bodynamics also sensitizes you to the themes of the developmental stages around which relationships and psychological development take place. Building your relationship with a client around these themes will greatly facilitate your ability to heal attachment disruptions.

Melting the Shame Freeze:
Somatic Techniques to Create Safety and Build Attachment

A Mini-Workshop for Therapists & Helping Professionals

Sponsored by Marin County Chapter of CAMFT

with Sheila Rubin, LMFT, RDT/BCT and Bret Lyon, PhD, SEP

Saturday, September 24, 2016
1:00pm – 4:00pm

Corte Madera Town Center
770 Tamalpais Drive, Room 201

Shame is the embodied belief that “something is wrong with me.” Many clients—and therapists—are not aware of how unhealed shame can keep body and emotions frozen. Because shame exists in the body as well as the mind, it is helpful for therapists to work with shame somatically. In this workshop, we will explore how to utilize somatic techniques to connect more quickly and forge a therapeutic alliance with clients.

Preregistration with Marin CAMFT is necessary. For pricing and full details, visit the Events page at www.marincamft.org or www.marincamft.org/event-2270674.

This workshop provides essential, basic knowledge of how to work with shame.  We will learn what shame is and how it is created, and how to help our clients recognize shame, work through it and move on. We will become more sensitive to the shaming often implicit in the therapy situation and learn how to counter shame in therapy. We will be able to help clients separate feelings of shame from other emotions. And we’ll learn how to take clients back to early shaming situations and reverse the outcome, helping clients move their energy powerfully outward rather than turn it against themselves.

Cornelia Gerken Dreams Painting

Connect to an innate guiding intelligence and creative potential

Cornelia Gerken, CMP, ECP

April 23 + 24, 2016

Neuroscience documents that we access more of our neuronal network and brain capacity when we dream. When we awake, we tend to narrow our experience to the paradigm that we call our Self and to our developed beliefs. With the Body-Dream-Process,™ we engage with our dreams through an experience that addresses and affirms the unity of the body-feelings-mind-continuum and unlocks its tremendous potential.

Dreams embrace different realities simultaneously. They may offer information about your health, your intra-psychic reality, your personality, as well as bringing up questions concerning relationships and how you relate to the world. Dreams address your soul’s journey, spiritual aspects of your being and the collective consciousness.

Speaking to all levels of our existence makes conscious dreaming so profound.

Dreams make the direct link between spirit and soul accessible.

As Somatic Therapist and Core Evolution trainer, Cornelia Gerken is uniquely skilled to work with what lies below the surface of our awareness. Our bodies like our dreams, are portals to our unconscious. Both speak a different language; one is symbolic, the other kinesthetic and felt. However, they both represent an energetic dynamic and state of the person. In this process we do not interpret dream symbols but come to understand dream-messages through an embodied experience and through direct communication with the intelligent field.

The Body-Dream-Process™ expands dream-work by exploring through our bodies and somatic awareness, personalized movements, gestures and mindful processing. It is a powerful and integrative approach – connected to our personal, spiritual and collective evolution.

Cornelia offers tools that are easy to learn and to apply to unlock the gift that a dream offers you as a guiding message for a lifetime.

This workshop for individuals and couples. The work in Core Evolution® explores how the aspects of body, emotion, mind, consciousness interact with each other. The experience of love unifies all these aspects. A person in love and sexual harmony communicates and creates from a place of well-being, peace, joy, and a sense of fulfillment.

Participants will learn how to identify and differentiate the nature and main elements of love, sexuality, and relationship, and their intention, motivation, needs, and wants in their relationship with themselves and others. We will also discover the nature of triggers, causes of unhappiness, but the possibility for change.

Cornelia and Siegmar create a safe space to look at important topics in life, while offering dynamic exploration, creative movement, and expression and mindful centering.

Somatic Psychology and Body-Oriented and Mindfulness-Centered Therapy

Siegmar Gerken, Ph.D.
June 18 – 19, 2016   •   Bay Area, California

Core Evolution addresses the wholeness of the person – personal qualities and unique potential. From this trust in our inherent power of love, goodness, creativity and capacity for self-healing, we utilize these qualities and resources to move towards self-realization – personally and professionally.

In this experiential workshop we address topics like:
Somatic Awareness and the Practice of Mindfulness
How do we structure our experiences on the levels of our body, feelings, thinking, and mind?

Explore the Matrix of Grounding
The Core Evolution concept to stand on the ground and feel connected to the Universe and to all existence.

Energetic Dimensions of an Integrative, Somatic Psychology – the Body-Field
In Core Evolution, the term body, always addresses the body in its energetic field. What do interstellar constellations, neuroscience and the research in CERN have to do with Somatic Psychology and mindfulness-centered therapy? Our own research with Infrared Analysis and Biophotonics suggests that we hold images of our experiences as representations in the consciousness of our body-field. Learn about the far-reaching implications these may have for any therapeutic approach.

History Becomes Visible: to feel, see and understand energy patterns and their manifestations in the body, emotions and thinking. This enables us to see and sense the life-story represented in the person’s body, movement and expression, and be able to trace, describe and access them.

Differentiation of Traumatic Experiences: Developmental Trauma and Shock Trauma – our life is a fabric woven of both experiences. In safely accessing a person’s resources, we can shift the impact a traumatic experience has.

How to deal with strong emotions like: loneliness, sadness, anger, abandonment, rage, and others. Learn principles of up- and down-regulation to change disturbing patterns in a safe and sustaining way and reawaken the life energy. Thus, enabling the experience of choice and increasing the joy and love for life; to move beyond the trauma and affirm your life’s direction.

Mindfulness in the Way of Relating

Siegmar & Cornelia Gerken
July 21 – 24, 2016   •   Mendocino, California

Whether you choose to be single or to be in a relationship, you need to relate and communicate. In this workshop you learn skills how to support your capacity to love and live the Will of your Heart with empathy, attunement, clarity and presence.

In your personal development you formed inner working models, that influence your emotions, body reactions, thinking, behavior and beliefs. In the work of Core Evolution, we call them Personality Reactions Patterns™. They fulfilled an important need in your early development, but often are not adequate any more for who you are today. You may, however, find yourself still perpetuating some of these protective childhood attitudes and attachment issues in your present adult relationships, which may prevent you from creating and leading a life you desire.

In this experiential retreat, we address many topics including the following:
• Love as an energetic state
• Love, empathy, and mirror neurons
• Body – personal development and sexuality
• Feelings – structuring of impulses and the emergence of gender awareness
• Psyche – differentiation of needs and wants
• Attachment styles, personality and their influence on adult sexuality and relationship
• Heart communication, intimacy, authenticity and healthy boundaries
• Spiritual dimensions of relationship
• How can partners separate with love, if that need arises?
• Relationship and how to make it last – moving towards harmony and unity.

We use empathic listening, heartfelt sharing, authentic movement, dance, dreamwork, individual and group processing to practice the principles of mindfulness and support positive change.
