By bringing mindful awareness to the body – our own and our client’s – we begin to develop an exquisite sensitivity and attunement to others. We learn to listen and support the deep intelligence of our client’s physical experience. By slowing down and creating physical experiments in mindfulness, we bring awareness and healing to habitual and limiting patterns. In this one-day workshop, discover key principles of the Hakomi Method through talks, demonstration and experiential learning.

About This Workshop

Have you wanted to work more somatically but haven’t had the tools? Have you been aware of your client’s physical presence—the way they sit, a repetitive gesture, the tightening of their shoulders—but haven’t known how to include it in the therapeutic process?

By bringing mindful awareness to the body – our own and our client’s – we begin to develop an exquisite sensitivity and attunement to others. Learn to listen and support the deep intelligence of your client’s physical experience. By slowing down and creating physical experiments in mindfulness, we bring awareness and healing to habitual and limiting patterns. In this one-day workshop, discover key principles of the Hakomi Method through talks, demonstration and experiential learning.

In this hands-on training, you will:

  • Find creative ways to work with the body that are gentle and effective
  • Learn to work experientially using gesture, posture, impulse, sensation, and touch
  • Begin to translate the language of the body into words, images and memories

For Whom

The workshop is open and relevant to both clinicians and the general public and serves as prerequisite hours for Hakomi Comprehensive Training.

A personal note from Ann,

“If you’ve been struggling with stuck clients, feeling overwhelmed or burnt out in your work, wondering how you can help your clients come into new relationship with old material, if you’re in need of a self-care practice you can use easily in the moments between sessions…if you value client-centered work and body-based processes and want to know how to incorporate them in your practice or deepen your work with them…our Focusing in Clinical Practice Training Program might be right for you.

I believe that a client holds the keys to her/his own best way forward and that a healing professional who knows how to help clients unlock the inner doorway to change is a priceless resource in the transformation process. This training teaches the main Realization Process practices along with specific practices for applying foundational consciousness to psychological and relational healing. The Realization Process approaches recovery from trauma in two ways: by directly facilitating body-mind integration through inhabiting the internal space of the body, and through practices that, along with verbal dialogue and insight, release the trauma-based constrictions in the fascia that obstruct our ability to inhabit our body.

The training also teaches how to sit with another person while attuned to foundational consciousness, how to discern subtle protective organizations within a person’s body, and to track the changes that occur within the internal space of one’s own and the other person’s body during a therapeutic session.

In the Realization Process, accessing and knowing ourselves as foundational consciousness is understood to be crucial for psychological health. Trauma disrupts our internal cohesion, either through the intensity if its impact, or through the constrictions that we ourselves create to protect against it. Uncovering the primary unified ground of ourselves can help recover us from trauma. It heals both the fragmentations within our individual being and the fragmentations between our internal experience and our experience of the world around us.

Foundational consciousness is experienced as stillness, within which all of the content of our experience—our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and perceptions—flow. As foundational consciousness, we can remain open to the unobstructed flow of experience without losing our underlying wholeness and stability. We gain a sense of both our own authenticity, of becoming who we really are, and of spontaneity, of being able to respond to life without fear of overwhelm or annihilation.

A certificate is awarded at the completion of the training, authorizing you to use the Realization Process Spiritual Psychotherapy practices professionally.

Taught by Judith Blackstone.

Format: 2 (two) five-day modules with required practice sessions between modules.
Dates: February 16-20, 2018; April 6-10, 2018
Location: Los Altos Hills, California (near San Francisco).

CE credits are available.

For further details about the requirements of this training, and for registration, please go to www.realizationcenter.com or email Judith at realizationctr@aol.com.

This training teaches the main Realization Process practices along with specific practices for awakening and moving through foundational consciousness in the whole body. As this core dimension of ourselves, we move with our whole being. We become both empty and present at the same time.

These practices deepen and integrate our capacities for understanding, emotional reponsiveness and physical sensation. They cultivate balance, fluidity, vitality, openness and self-contact.

A certificate is awarded at the completion of the training, authorizing you to teach the Realization Process Embodiment practices.

Format: two five-day modules.
Dates: November 10-14, 2017; May 4-8, 2018

To register, go to www.realizationcenter.com or email Judith at realizationctr@aol.com.
Taught by Judith Blackstone.

This training teaches the main Realization Process practices for embodied nondual awakening. When we inhabit our body as a whole, we uncover a subtle, unified experience of foundational consciousness pervading our body and environment at the same time. This is experienced as the authentic ground of our individual being, and the basis of our oneness with our surroundings, and with other people. This means that we can know ourselves and mature as individuals, at the same time as we transcend our individuality.

A certificate is awarded at the completion of the training authorizing you to teach the Realization Process practices.

The training is taught by Judith Blackstone, the founder of the Realization Process.

12 classes on Zoom: Fridays, 1:00-2:30 Eastern (all classes are recorded and available for download; you do not need to attend the classes in real time), weekly practice with a partner from within the group, monthly practice with someone from outside of the group, email q&a with Judith. Somatic Experiencing helps people find new, empowered body experiences to contradict the patterns established by trauma. Together, we will explore clinical insights from Body-oriented psychotherapy, and recent findings in the neurosciences, on how the brain and body deals with emotional information, providing a foundation for effective therapeutic action.

An Introductory Body-Psychotherapy Workshop for professionals and people interested in opening their capacity for joy in their life.

Saturday & Sunday June 24-25, 2017 Seattle, Washington

OR
Saturday & Sunday July 15-16, 2017 Salt Lake City, Utah

Provides 13 1/2 CEU hours through NASW

Traditional psychotherapy works toward congruence in a person’s thinking, emotions, actions, and life choices. Body-oriented therapy understands that the body is also profoundly affected by our life experiences. Identifying and releasing attitudes and old images held in our physical structure adds an important component to therapy. This promotes lasting change, allowing for free flow of life energy from within us so we can more fully realize our life, our joy.

This experiential workshop will give participants the opportunity to experience the basic premises of Body-Psychotherapy that originated with Wilhelm Reich and now integrates Core Energetics and contemporary approaches including somatic approaches, current neurobiology and trauma therapy. The workshop combines lectures with movement and experiential opportunities. I also bring my understanding of many other approaches to employ creativity and spirituality to enhance the journey.

AST Model® for SEPs: 3 Semester Intensive Online Course: Intersection between Shame & Trauma Designed for More Effective Client Outcomes
taught by AST Model of Holistic Shame Resolution® Developer Caryn Scotto d’ Luzia, MA, SEP

Like trauma, specific skills are required to make it possible to fully resolve shame and end the redundant neuro-chemical looping of shame cycles. Yet, shame’s resolution has often been misunderstood by most models including somatic-based approaches. This online course will introduce SEPs to why the complex nature of shame sometimes makes its resolution elusive, and how through the AST Model®’s unique neuro-biological approach offers SEPs missing tools that can create sustainable and deeply gratifying shame relief and life-affirming shifts that transform lives.

AST Model®’s inspiring lens is designed to address working with shame’s challenges and clients with whom nothing seems to work. Participants will have the opportunity to learn to apply familiar SE concepts such as collapse, titration, orienting, protective defenses and uncoupling dynamics differently than in SE shock trauma sessions

We will focus on the body as the basis for connection and presence in psychotherapy. Breema, a dynamic, nurturing, interoceptive practice, will be used to experience coherence between body and mind as a catalyst for movement towards healing and transformation in the therapeutic relationship. Body-mind connection supports the therapist to be present. Presence invites both the client and therapist to contact and move from that within themselves which is inherently whole. Issues of compassion fatigue, counter-transference, vicarious trauma, stress, and burnout are mitigated, while a tangible atmosphere of empathy, acceptance, non-judgment, and aliveness is nurtured. Particular emphasis will be placed on the experience of the practitioner, as we learn individual and partner self-care exercises. We will also explore universal principles underlying Breema—-No Judgment, Body Comfortable, Mutual Support, No Force—-and discover how they can foster a vital, openhearted relationship to life.

About Breema
Breema Bodywork®, Self-Breema Exercises®, and The Nine Principles of Harmony are natural expressions of the unifying principle of Existence. They offer a practical means of becoming present, a commonsense approach to physical, mental, and emotional health, and a new way of learning that leads to increased understanding of ourselves and a deepening sense of fulfillment, meaning, and purpose.

No prior experience necessary, please come in comfortable clothing prepared to move around on a padded floor.

The more we care about each other, the more vulnerable we are to shame. Intentionally or unintentionally, we poke each other in the tender spots. Couples can shame each other multiple times a day, often without realizing what is happening. This can become a highly reactive cycle, preventing both people from getting their basic safety and attachment needs met. And shame can distort how we hear each other; the received message may have little to do with the message the partner is attempting to send.

In this workshop we will explore the blame/shame game couples can fall into and learn how to help them stop shaming each other and work together to create a secure base and heal the wounds of the past.

We will:
– Look at some of the many subtle ways shame can be triggered.
– Explore shaming moments with great care so we can teach our clients how to avoid shame-based reactivity.
– Learn the gentle art of counter-shaming and how to help a partner with his or her feelings of inadequacy.
– Help a person give back shame to the original source with their partner’s full support.

If we can free the energy that has been stuck in blame and shame, couples can increase their vitality, joy and intimacy.

A high percentage of clients in outpatient treatment and a higher percentage of inpatients report histories of neglect, trauma, and/or attachment failure. In addition to being diagnosed with PTSD, this client population often presents as affectively dysregulated, chronically depressed, exhibiting symptoms of bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and borderline or other personality disorders.

Level I of The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Training Program in Affect Regulation, Attachment, and Trauma equips therapists to better understand the symptoms and issues of these challenging client populations and to work with them in a more effective way. With a better understanding of the presenting problems of these clients and equipped with interventions that speak directly to how their issues are driven by the body and the nervous system, students will be able to directly impact the direction of treatment not only for these client populations but also in their practice settings.

The Level I Training presents simple, body-oriented interventions for tracking, naming, and safely exploring trauma-related, somatic activation, creating new competencies and restoring a somatic sense of self. Students will learn effective, accessible interventions for identifying and working with disruptive somatic patterns, disturbed cognitive and emotional processing, and the fragmented sense of self experienced by so many traumatized individuals. Techniques are taught within a phase-oriented treatment approach, focusing first on stabilization and symptom reduction. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can be easily and effectively integrated into psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and EMDR-focused treatments.

This Training consists of approximately 80 contact hours.

Focusing is a powerful process that can shift emotional stuckness into ease and balance. But it’s not always clear how Focusing can be of direct help when we’re confronted with the struggles of daily life.

Working Through Anxiety

When: April 17, 2017, 4:00PM – 5:30PM Pacific Time
Cost: $39 until April 9th, $49 after

A message about this webinar from Ann Weiser Cornell

Got anxiety? I know I do.

My throat closes up and my heart starts to pound, and I start to feel sure that something terrible is about to happen.

Luckily I don’t feel that way very often… even now that the world feels turned upside down… and luckily I have some powerful and empowering processes to help me deal with it when it comes.

We don’t choose when to be anxious. It hijacks us… reading an email, or driving in bad weather, or watching the news. Suddenly our body is in panic mode, adrenalin pours in, and our thoughts are hijacked as well. Disaster is sure to happen.

Or maybe it’s not as intense as that but it’s more a feeling of dread and doom that hangs over you all day. It might be about money, about your health, about the future of the world.

In this first seminar on Focusing in Daily Life, I will show you how to use fast, “first-aid” Focusing at the times when you feel overtaken by anxiety in the midst of life. You’ll come away with powerful and practical moves you can use immediately to feel more at ease, more balanced, more clear.

Finding the Gift in Anger without Losing Your Head

Date: May 25, 2017, 10:30 AM – 12:00PM Pacific Time
Cost: $39 until May 17th, $49 after

A message about this webinar from Ann Weiser Cornell

Anger is good. The feeling of outrage shouts out loud and clear that something is unfair, wrong, unacceptable. Our bodies are full of powerful energy that could be directed to righting that wrong.

But anger can also make us stupid, lead us to take actions that don’t help and actually make things worse. Anger at old wrongs can become corrosive, turned inward at ourselves, forming part of dead-end patterns of blockage and frustration. And worst of all, anger with no acceptable channel can turn into feelings of powerlessness, depression, and despair.

If you’re like me, there’s a lot to be angry about these days. I feel both angry and sad when I see how my values of compassion and caring for the more vulnerable among us are ignored and tossed aside by many of our political leaders. You may be different from me, and I respect that — but I bet there is a lot to trigger your anger too. (People trying to take your guns away?)

In addition to current events, our anger may be triggered by behaviors occurring now that set off something in us hurt and hidden from long ago. Being disrespected… not being heard… being marginalized.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could channel our anger into effectiveness without dissolving into overwhelm and feelings of powerlessness? In this seminar, I will show you how to use Focusing when your anger flares up and when your despair knocks you down, to shift from powerlessness to empowerment, and from inner suffering to inner strength.

Reaching Across Differences

Date: June 28, 2017, 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM Pacific Time
Cost: $39 until June 20th, $49 after

A message about this webinar from Ann Weiser Cornell

“I don’t get it. How could you have done that? How could you see the world the way you do?”

In a world that feels increasingly divided, I long to have conversations with people who have made choices that make no sense to me. I wish I could find out how someone could believe that climate change doesn’t exist, or that immigrants are inherently dangerous.

It’s not that I’m trying to change their minds. Well, maybe part of me is. But most of all, I’d like to be in dialogue with them so that together we can find a way to go forward. And so the world starts to make a bit more sense.

Being able to reach across differences to hear each other, and possibly to find common ground… do you long for that, too?

For many of us, the differences are in our own families. The people whose choices baffle us are our brothers and sisters, our children and our parents. And maybe it’s not about politics, but it’s about child-rearing, or about whether therapy helps, or whether forgiveness is possible. It hurts to be so far apart… estranged for years… is there any way to come together again?

In this seminar, I will offer some ideas about how to use Focusing when you want (or need) to have conversations with people who have different values and different assumptions from you. I will be joined by some people who have experience in this area, and I look forward to being inspired by what they share with us. We’ll come away with more hope and more possibilities for life-changing dialogue.
